Herbal treatments for HPV? A close friend of mine has been diagnosed with HPV and her doctor has been having her come in quarterly to have biopsies done. She has not been prescribed medication. She has squamish (sp?) cells which her doctor says are pre-cancerous and they are having her in so often to watch them and make sure they don't become cancerous. Said friend is a very crunchy, natural, vegan, 80% raw foodist type and would like to find an herbal remedy to help get her cells back to normal. Does such a thing exist? Has anyone heard of something like this?

If one more person... asks me when the W-2s are going to be ready, I'm going to scream. I have had at least four people ask me this week.
I work for a small construction company. On a regular basis, we have 15-20 employees. But, during a year, we may have 50-55 different employees because a lot of guys will work a couple of days, decide it's too hard and quit. So 50 or so W-2s to figure.
Our first day back since New Year's was Monday. So, why, oh why would you ask me ON MONDAY when I think the W-2s will be ready? Legally, I don't have to give them to you until January 31st but because I'm nice and I want to file my taxes just as badly as YOU do, I get them done as fast as I possibly can. But, as you can see, I have invoices to do, bills to pay and the myriad of other duties I perform as the only office worker in the company.
Because I'm a stickler for them being correct, I double-check my figures against the computers' and then I make sure they balance back to all the quarterly tax forms that I had to file during the year. Really, I promise, as soon as they are done, I will pass them out just so I don't have to hear one more person ask me about them.
It's gotten to the point that I told my boss I was about ready to make a sign to hang on my door that says "Do NOT ask me about the W-2s!!!!"

Dog needs home I got this message at work today and it is really sad... Anyone want a dog? It's not me, I swear, I would never do this. Contact me if you are interested.
Does anyone know someone who would like to provide a loving home for an 11 year old female German Sheppard???
She is a good dog, very people and kid friendly, not very dog friendly unfortunately, tolerant of cats, but prefers to be the center of your attention.
I just cant care for her any longer and she really only has a few years left in her so taking her to the Humane Society is my very last resort…
I have all her stuff to provide even medical records & food.
She just needs a yard to play in, regular walks, someone to pick-up her poop, feed & water her and of course a lot of love!!!
If you know anyone who would like to have a good companion…

Odd kind of suck.... Not a suck in the traditional sense, and he wasn't my paying customer (still looked over our programs), but still.

Wow, cynical lot.
Yes, I was willing to buy her the Zbuds. No, it wouldn't have cost me $50 (which is why I was so willing to do it.)
Yes this did happen.

TV question If a Portlander (with comcast cable) wanted to watch WNBA games on teevee this year, would she have to get one of those overpriced packages, or is it available on regular channels somewhere? Google is being kind of unhelpful about this question.

Seahawks fire Mora after one season This is just coming in on the radio and the Internet.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4808557
Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora has been fired after one season, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton.
Mora attended a meeting Friday morning with management, at which time he was told Seattle did not win enough games to save his job, the source said.

The underpants bomber aftermath: does this make sense to you? The entire incident where the flight to Maui was intercepted by jet fighters because a guy onboard wouldn't stow his luggage is, it would probably not have happened if not for the Detroit "underpants bomber" incident. As well as how a flight from Boston was canceled because someone smelled an "odd smell". And a New Jersey terminal was shut down, etc. And how the recriminations have been flying around that the government failed deeply.
The thing is, no was actually hurt or injured in that Detroit incident. (Other than the guy who actually lit his groin on fire). Obviously, it could have been a terrible thing if the fire was to spread. But it didn't. And yet this is held up as something that should have been prevented.
At the same time as there is this idea that any terrorist act on a plane should be prevented, we have also had a guy walk into a federal courthouse in Las Vegas and open fire. And then someone walked into their work in Missouri and opened fire, killing three people. Both of these stories just went through the usual run of the news cycle. No one is suggesting that the government failed to realize that Timothy Hedron of Missouri was ready to do something crazy, but apparently they should have known that about Umar Abdulmullutab was. So any act of terrorism is a terrible affront, but having people blown away at work is just "the cost of doing business"?
And for that matter, as long as we are dealing with transportation related deaths, about 18,000 people die a year from drunk driving. During 2009, how many Americans died from airborne terrorism? Much less than that. What would it be like if we lived in a country where it was hard enough to get on a freeway drunk, as it was to get on an airplane carrying a bottle of shampoo?

Cheesemonger Chronicles: Rinse, Repeat, Resent Background: I am a cheesemonger. It's true that familiarity breeds contempt - so go away so I can forget I hate you.
No, I am not going to open seven different prepackaged cheeses for you to try. Once these cheeses are opened, we can no longer sell them. No, my manager is not going to open those seven cheeses for you. She does not want to take the $50 loss either. Yes, my store manager will force her to open those seven cheeses. Congratulations! Celebrate by not buying any of them! Proclaim your victory by announcing you never planned on buying any, and now you don't need lunch!

my very first real life guilt trip! Last week, I was vacationing in Florida, and some nice people let me stay at their place. (long story...my stuff got stolen...blech)
Anyway. The one couple was childfree, in their fifties and seemed to be living life to the fullest. The one single male had been married 25 years, also in fifties, and had raised three children with his ex wife.
So the topic came up, as it usually does, and I'd asked the couple why they'd decided not to have kids. The boyfriend says, "Well, if I'd had kids, I wouldn't have a boat and a house down in Key West right now." His girlfriend says, "Yeah, I was just never the mom type."
Later that evening, the topic came up again, but the couple wasn't around. The other gentleman, the one with three grown children started going on and on about what a wonderful experience being a father had been, and how he wouldn't change it for the world. Which is cool, and a nice thing to hear coming from a parent, ya know?
Anyway. So then I said that my partner and I didn't want kids, and that it'll never be a possibility, but someday we're going to end up getting married and the etcetera.
He got mad at me! Which was unexpected...but he started saying that at 25 I was too young to know, and that my partner and I shouldn't do anything rash like sterilization or anything like that, and how someday I would change my mind. So I said, "No, I really won't. And my partner's on the same page, so its good that way. But we're gonna get married someday and blah blah".
So then he says, "Well, don't get married. There's no point to getting married unless you're going to have kids. That's the only reason to do it."
I was surprised. Like I've read a lot of the experiences in this community, similar conversations and the like, but damn. I'd never really had anyone say that to me. It was a shocker, that I would actually have to defend this decision. Weird!
Over Christmas, I told my dad that I wasn't going to have kids. He said: "Well, its your decision." Me: "You won't be upset if you don't have grandkids?" Him: "I wouldn't mind having grandkids, but not if you don't want to raise them."
Just had to share this with ya'll.

Catering ideas?! Oh knowledgeable gourmands of Portland, I need your recommendations.
Recommend me a caterer or catering company or catering person who will come to my home bearing delicious finger food and party snacks with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of flavor and flair. Or I suppose I could drive over and pick it up. As long as its delicious!

(We've not had snow like this in Birmingham since the 80's so I can only assume they must have bought those this week. wtf?)
And then one sledge with a dog on it.
Awwwww! Your dog can walk, it is naturally equipped for the outdoors, but awwwww! Way cuter than children. =D
